ACARS - What is that?
ACARS is a digital data link system for
transmission of small messages between aircrafts and ground
stations via radio or satellite.
ACARS is an abbreviation of (A)ircraft (C)ommunication
(A)ddressing and
(R)eporting (S)ystem, and several airlines are using the system.
Using a small programme, ACARSD, you are able to
receive and decode messages using a radio scanner and an
ordinary PC.
In this way you are able to sit in your most comfortable chair
in the garden and look at the aircrafts passing by on the blue
sky and afterwards be able to identify a big part of these
flights on your PC.
ACARS is, as a joke, said to be an abbreviation
of Arm Chair
Aircraft Reggie Spotting.
The programme is free and can be found on the
net:
